Our Story

Everyone loves a story, and here is ours.....

It begins with a young girl losing her mother to cancer and having to relocate to Coimbatore to study - and discovering that the saree was the new uniform. In the beginning, it was trial and error with the draping process, the petticoat, etc, but necessity soon made her master the art, and the saree became her only attire. Even in those days, Kanjivaram silks were almost beyond her reach and, owning only three, she managed for decades. It was only in the later years of her life that she was able to afford the more expensive ones.

Watching her pleating the saree as a little girl was a delight for me. The perfection with which she did it and the swiftness of the whole process was indeed mastery. Her daily attire became mine very early on, and at a young age I began wearing the saree, from daily life as a girl to my corporate meetings all over the globe.

Loom Sarees is a dedication to that young girl of fifteen - my mother.
